Derek Fawaz

My name is Derek Fawaz, and I am a passionate filmmaker on a mission to tell the best stories that I can. 

 

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in Film and Television production.  During my journey, I have traveled to New York and Los Angeles to learn how to be a film editor.  I have collaborated with the American Cinema of Editors doing research work, edited documentary films, and worked as an assistant editor.  As an intern at CBS Studios I learned how to accomplish many great projects in the digital media department with Emmy award winning producers and videographers.  Starting with the script, to the production budget, to directing and editing the footage, I have experienced the stages of production to nurture my own future vision.

With my company, Blue Cell Productions, I write, film, and edit my own work using some of the best non-linear editing systems including Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro.  What has attracted me to both the film and video mediums is how they allow the audience to feel that rare, genuine intimacy with a character, or world, that is separated by the screen.  In time, this is what I hope to achieve with my own productions.

Even though I am proud of the work that you will see on this website, everything here is an inspiration to help me improve my craft.  Whether it is through editing, writing, or directing, my goal is to create better projects than what I've done in the past.  In the future, my dream projects will be here for you to see.
